OSS Team Captain Invitation — Bear and Triston Scherer

The Operator Support Shoot puts a combat veteran captain in charge of every team — someone who runs weapons handling, range safety, and stage strategy while the rest of the team brings competitive drive and a willingness to learn something new. At the 2027 San Diego event, one team will be led by a father and son, both stepping into that role together.

Bus transportation will be organized from San Diego to Covert Canyon Ranch for teams and captains.

Bear and Triston Scherer will serve as co-captains for one team at the Operator Support Shoot.

Bear is a Dux Fortis instructor who has put in the work through the program’s instructor train-ups — he knows the training standards, knows how to work with shooters, and knows how to get a team organized and moving safely through an event. Triston brings a different edge to the same table: the ability to take a complicated objective, break it down, and keep working it until it’s solved.

Bear, a retired U.S. Army First Sergeant, served 15 years with multiple combat deployments to Iraq, where he trained hundreds of intelligence analysts and conducted PSD and convoy security operations. As former Operations Director at Camp Hope with the PTSD Foundation of America, he led safety, emergency response, and trauma recovery programs for veterans. He brings advanced pistol skills and formal instructor credentials to every range session, focusing on precision, speed, and real-world defensive application. Today he channels that same discipline through Stoic Caliber, delivering mindset-driven firearms training while continuing to serve and advocate for his fellow veterans.

Triston spends his days on staff at the PTSD Foundation of America, keeping the technology running behind Camp Hope and the programs that help combat veterans get their footing back. He is the owner of Spartan Tek Solutions and co-owner of Stoic Caliber, a firearms training company he runs alongside his father, Bear. That work has put him behind the scenes of the veteran-owned training community across Houston, including building the systems that run Dux Fortis Training. He is a shooter first on event day, and his goal as captain is a team that shows up organized, safe, and ready to win.

Bear and Triston will make contact with their assigned team before event day — checking gear and capabilities, bringing the team together, and guiding them through the stages when the timer starts.

Acquire with discipline. Grow with intention. Exit with honor.

I Hope I Mattered
