The Veteran Owner's Climb

One Path. Six Phases.
Every Veteran Business Owner.

From first prospect to lifelong mentor — how Owners In Honor™ moves veterans through the full ownership journey.

Every offering at Owners In Honor™ exists to move you through a single integrated journey — not a collection of separate programs.

The Full Ownership Arc

Ownership isn’t one moment — it’s a campaign executed in phases. Each phase at Owners In Honor™ builds on the last, reducing risk and increasing readiness as you move from first interest to long-term legacy. The lifecycle below is the full picture — where you enter, how you progress, and what’s waiting for you at every stage.

Prospect → Applicant → Candidate → Fellow → Operator → Seller → Mentor

Six Phases.
One Integrated Journey.

Here’s what each phase covers, what it costs, and how it moves you forward.

Phase 0: Getting Ready
Explore

Secondary identifier: Pre-Climb Checks
Progression: Prospect → Applicant

Before you start formal acquisition training, this phase confirms you’re personally, financially, and mentally ready to become a business owner. You don’t need to have everything figured out — you need to be honest about where you stand so we can build from there.

What happens in this phase:
Readiness curriculum, financial and credit positioning, early Buy Box development, and SBA awareness. You leave Phase 0 knowing whether you’re ready to enter Buyer Basecamp — and exactly what to address if you’re not yet.

Cost: Free

Phase I: Buyer Basecamp
Learn to Acquire

Progression: Applicant → Candidate

Free, structured education that prepares you to search for a business like a credible buyer. Buyer Basecamp covers financial readiness, deal sourcing strategy, SBA financing fundamentals, and Buy Box development — the foundational knowledge every serious acquisition search requires.

Veterans who complete Basecamp enter the market with credibility — lenders, brokers, and sellers can tell the difference between a prepared buyer and someone still figuring it out. Basecamp closes that gap.

Delivered in partnership with SBA Veterans Business Outreach Centers (VBOCs).

Cost: Free

Phase II: The Fellow Program
Search & Acquire

Secondary identifier: Acquisition Ascent
Progression: Candidate → Fellow

Hands-on advisory support through an active acquisition search — from evaluating deals to closing on a business. The Fellow Program pairs you with OIH’s Search & Acquisition team from your first LOI through your closing day.

The Fellow Program is not a course. It’s operational advisory — working alongside you in real time on real deals. Deal evaluation, due diligence coordination, financing preparation, and direct access to OIH’s network of lenders, brokers, and M&A advisors.

Cost: Funded through equity participation — not upfront fees. OIH’s compensation is a negotiated equity stake not exceeding 5% of the acquired business, documented at close.

Phase III: Results Ridgeline
Lead & Grow

Progression: Fellow → Operator

Once you own the business, this phase focuses on building real enterprise value. Results Ridgeline covers the first several years of ownership — stabilizing operations, building the team, implementing systems, and executing a Value Creation Plan designed to grow your business and prepare it for an eventual exit.

This is where veteran discipline becomes the competitive advantage. Operators in this phase receive executive coaching, KPI and cash flow frameworks, operational advisory, and peer community access through the OIH Operator network.

Cost: Optional — Well below market rate.

Phase IV: Sellers Summit
Learn to Exit

Progression: Operator → Seller

Free education preparing owners to exit intentionally. Sellers Summit covers the full exit planning lifecycle — business valuation, succession planning, data room preparation, buyer positioning, and transition strategy.

Most business owners exit reactively — when circumstances force the issue. Sellers Summit exists to change that. Operators who complete this phase exit with a clear strategy, a prepared business, and direct access to OIH’s pipeline of qualified veteran buyers when the time comes.

Cost: Free

Phase V: Azimuth Alignment
Renew Purpose

Progression: Seller → Mentor

After a successful exit, the mission doesn’t end — it evolves. Azimuth Alignment keeps veteran operators engaged as mentors, advisors, and community leaders in the OIH ecosystem, supporting the next generation of Candidates and Fellows coming up behind them.

This phase addresses the identity gap that follows a major exit — the transition from operator to what comes next. Capital redeployment, board roles, mentorship, philanthropy, and investment strategy are all part of the conversation.

Veterans who reach this phase have done something rare: they built a business, led it well, and exited with honor. Now they help others do the same.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Owners In Honor™ program runs across six phases: Phase 0 (Pre-Climb Checks — readiness preparation), Phase I (Buyer Basecamp — foundational acquisition education), Phase II (The Fellow Program / Acquisition Ascent — active search and acquisition support), Phase III (Results Ridgeline — post-acquisition growth and value creation), Phase IV (Sellers Summit — exit planning and succession), and Phase V (Azimuth Alignment — post-exit purpose, mentorship, and capital redeployment). Each phase builds on the last and is tied to a defined lifecycle progression from Prospect through Mentor.

Not necessarily — it depends on where you enter the ecosystem. Veterans pursuing business acquisition start at Phase 0 and move through Phase I and II. Veterans who already own a business may enter at Phase III. Retiring veteran business owners engaging with OIH as sellers engage through Phase IV. The phases are integrated, but your entry point depends on where you are in the ownership journey when you connect with OIH.

Results Ridgeline is Owners In Honor™'s Phase III program — the operational growth stage that follows a successful acquisition. It covers cash flow stabilization, KPI management, team leadership, operational systems, and Value Creation Plan execution. The goal is to help veteran operators build measurable enterprise value in the years between acquisition and exit — turning a business they bought into a business worth significantly more when they eventually sell.

Azimuth Alignment is Phase V of the Owners In Honor™ lifecycle — the post-exit phase focused on identity, purpose, and capital redeployment. After a successful business exit, many veterans face what OIH calls the "identity gap" — the transition from operator to whatever comes next. Azimuth Alignment addresses that directly through mentorship integration, investment strategy, board and advisory roles, and continued community engagement within the OIH ecosystem.

Sellers Summit is Owners In Honor™'s Phase IV program — free structured education for business owners preparing to exit. It covers valuation drivers, exit timing strategy, data room preparation, buyer positioning, and succession planning. Sellers Summit is available to both veteran operators who acquired through OIH and independent veteran business owners approaching retirement. It also connects sellers to OIH's active pipeline of qualified veteran buyers.

The readiness and education phases — Phase 0 and Buyer Basecamp (Phase I) — are free. Sellers Summit (Phase IV) is also free. The Fellow Program (Phase II) is funded through a negotiated equity participation arrangement at close — not upfront fees. Phases III and V (Results Ridgeline and Azimuth Alignment) have their own program structures and agreements. OIH's nonprofit structure means program access is designed to be as accessible as possible — our mission is veteran ownership success, not revenue from the veterans we serve.
